The Transformers: Rise of the Beasts trailer dropped this morning and DUDE does it look epic. So far this looks like it is taking everything we loved about the Bumblebee movie (and the IP of Transformers in general), and leaving out everything that made the Michael Bay set of movies arguably pretty tough to watch.
The movie is set in 1994 (there’s a brief glipse of the World Trade Centers in NYC!) and looks to be continuing the “reset” that the Bumblebee movie has started a few years back.
Many familiar Autobots make appearances in the trailer, like Optimus Prime and Bumblebee, but we are getting introduced to a new faction of Transformer – the Maximals – as strong allies. This group is lead by Prime’s counterpart, Optimus Primal, who transformers into a Gorilla rather than a big rig. The Maximal counterpart to fan-favorite Bumblebee, would have to be Cheetor, who takes on the form of a cheetah.
We do get our first glimpse of Unicron, who will play the film’s big antagonist, and leader of the Terracons (used to be called Predacons back in Beast Wars). Unicron is a world-eating force that has Earth on his dinner menu.
This film looks to be building hype-steam as it nears its U.S. release date of June 9!
