It is release weekend for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3! This movie introduces a slew of new characters, but one of them is Adam Warlock. A lot of folks keep asking, “Why is there a weird looking gold guy flying around and trying to kill Drax?!” Well, sit back and listen in, we are gonna try to give you some backstory on Mr. Warlock from the comics, and also remind you that you’ve seen this character before!
In the MCU:
Adam appears (sort of) in the post-credits scene of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Ayesha, the leader of the Sovereign race, reveals that she has created a powerful being to destroy the Guardians, and names him “Adam.” Yep, that’s the same Adam, and don’t worry, it has been a LONG journey between GotG2 and GotG3, so if you forgot about this post-credit scene, we understand!
Background from the Comics:
Adam Warlock is an artificial being created by a group of scientists known as the Enclave, designed to be the perfect human. After rebelling against his creators and leaving their laboratory, obtains superhuman abilities including super strength, flight, energy manipulation, and healing.
Warlock has been a major player in many Marvel storylines, particularly in the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe. He is closely associated with the Infinity Stones, having possessed the Soul Stone on multiple occasions, and has connections to the Guardians of the Galaxy (specifically Gamora, who he has a relationship with).
Adam Warlock has been both a hero and a villain in the Marvel Universe, sometimes taking on a messianic role and other times being portrayed as a dangerous antagonist. He has been a member of various teams including the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Avengers, and the Infinity Watch.
Overall, Adam Warlock is a complex character with a rich history in Marvel Comics, and has been an important figure in many of the most iconic Marvel storylines.
We here at FNM are very excited to see him entering the MCU and cannot wait to see what they do with the character in future phases!
